Beavers are beneficial to the river environment. Humans hunted them to the extinction to enlarge territory and get their fur. At last British recognise their role as an excellent dam builder to stop river’s failing. They just eat only soft inside of a bough or a branch as a vegan.
Introduction
To tackle extraordinary heat wave and climate crisis, UK government, environmentalists and experts recognise beaver’s capability to build a dam that is beneficial to rivers and surroundings and protect beavers and let them in wildlife.
Beaver’s return to save Britain’s rivers and beavers’ key role in heat wave Climate crisis
It is hoped that this can fall in step with the 25 year environment plan, and the desire to restore nature detailed in the Environment Act 2021. Despite all of this however, the beaver activists remain concerned.
If we do not act fast enough it may be too late. In 2022 the record shattering heatwave, and severe drought as a result demonstrated to all that beavers have a place as our allies in the climate crisis.
We must see beavers as a key part of the ecosystem in our wetlands. It’s been proven in east Devon that beaver presence can encourage a verdant wedge of diverse life on lands managed by Clinton Devon Estates.
Let’s rally to the beaver cause, and welcome them back with open arms.
At last Britain is protecting the beavers that could save our failing rivers, if they are permitted to live into the wild. So it would seem that now Britain is acting to protect beavers that used to be prevalent along our rivers.
However, they will need to be released back into the wild first. Since 1st October 2022, the Eurasian beaver is now recognised as a protected species under the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017.
Beaver protection law by Beaver Trust and Wildlife Trusts
The plans currently aren’t a carte blanche permit for beavers to have free reign over our wetlands and river systems though. Although it’s something that the Beaver Trust and the Wildlife Trusts are hoping very much to see.
For now, beavers will remain in protected enclosures until laws are fully in place to protect them. Many landowners may be against such proposals as beaver dams can cause issues and cause small scale flooding on nearby field areas, damaging and hindering crop growing, and infrastructure.
However with assistance from the government it is completely possible to mitigate such issues and coexistence is certainly a possibility. Current legislation to manage beaver activity has been released since September 2022, and transparency and guidance will be needed from both sides for the plans to come to fruition.
It means that you are no longer allowed, and it is against the law, with risk of prosecution to kill, injure or capture, disturb their habitats without an official license.
Before they had been classed as “no longer normally present” in the eyes of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, but now they have been given the protected status, because they are now considered native animals.
It means English beavers now share the same special protections as their Scottish counterparts which have been a European Protected Species since 2019.
Relentless campaigning on behalf of the beaver cause has brought us to this point. It seems that the British public is also in favour of bringing beavers back into our countryside for good, as it appears that over 60% are in favour of such legislation.
Beavers were handled bad and UK government cooperates with local landowners
Beavers have had a harsh history in the British Isles, as they had been hunted to the point of extinction for their furs and body parts. Back then in the 16th century beavers were a common sight along the rivers of the medieval countryside.
Wetlands with active beaver populations bring a myriad of benefits, including attracting a wider variety of wildlife, and engineering elaborate dam systems to lessen water flows.
It seems that the UK government would rather reintroduce beavers discreetly into well managed areas in co-operation with local landowners, instead of releasing them en masse into the wild.
A solid and consistent timeline of activity is needed, with details of associated management programmes, release schedules that will be stuck to, and robust government support and funding to coordinate these activities.
Closing
Beavers build and fix wood dams faithfully diligently excellently all day long in family group generation after generation, which protects rivers’ fail and stabilises water level. They are mild vegans and tackle climate crisis.
It’s great for UK to decide protecting beavers and letting them live in the wild.
