Fine vegan cheese is finally starting to come into its own. Once never even considered to be a foodstuff that would be present on an everyday after dinner table with tasty biscuits.

Vegan cheeses are now much better in taste, texture and availability than they used to be. Mainstream supermarkets are now offering more shelf space to these products in 2022.

New York city based vegan cheese brand RIND entered the fray at the Whole Foods Market in the NoMad neighbourhood, bringing its special brands.

They have been aged in the traditional way without a slight hint of any dairy products to produce them. Clients can have their cheese wedges cut to order from large cheese wheels present at the Whole Foods Market.

RIND has been expanding its presence in 5 specific retail real estate food stores in New York City, Manhattan West, Triebeca, Gowanus, Columbus Circle and Williamsburg, widening its presence gradually.

The company RIND was founded in 2017 by vegan fashion brand entrepreneur Joshua Katcher and vegan tatoo shop owner Dina DiCenso. And launched its first vegan cheese product to handpicked New York City restaurants back in 2019.

These two creative individuals launched the RIND line of products as dairy free alternatives, packing them with delicious taste, moreishness, with a rich buttery texture.

It is currently expanding in Las Vegas to The Wynn and hopes to have a much larger presence in the coming months. More famous company brands have also been working on dairy free vegan cheese such as Violife and Follow your Heart.

Common cheese varieties that have been mimicked in the past are cheddar, mozzarella to name but a few.

Miyoko’s Creamy cheeses are to die for, in taste to tackle global waring

Newer categories are being expanded upon too by vegan artisanal cheesemaker Miyoko’s Creamy, and has been doing so since 2014, focusing on traditionally aged cheeses.

They have recently showcased several new varieties of cheeses at Natural Food Expo West, and have been pioneering liquid based vegan cheeses. Such as mozzarella and cottage cheese, creatively uses watermelon seeds to perfect its products.

Lastly, Nuts for Cheese have been focusing on cashew based recipes to make their vegan based cheese products. Earlier this year 2022 the brand had raised over $5.35m in funding for development, research and expansion of its products and business.

The company began its journey in 2015, formed by vegan chef founder Margaret Coons. Some of its delicious vegan cheese flavours are Black garlic, the yummy sounding Artichoke and Herb, and the innovative named Un-brie-lievable!
