US startup Protein Evolution’s evolutionary new way to break down plastics
Plastic needs 1million years to break down. Startup Protein Evolution developed an efficient process with a organism technology for dissolving plastic.
Protein Evolution claimed it has developed a process that breaks down plastics waste so it can be recycled easily into new products. The new startup based in New Heaven, Connecticut, US developing its ground breaking technology under the radar announced the news on 5th November.
It created a process that can break down plastic waste into components parts in order to make new items. Up until this point in time, it has been cheaper to make new plastic than to recycle old plastic.
Protein Evolution says that the technology can be able to break that old production habits and help the chemical industry transition to have a better, more responsible and less harmful eco footprint.
In a quote from Sophie Baker, a board member of PEI, and a partner of Collaborative Fund some of these thought processes are explained.
“Corporation, and the action they take today, play a significant role in charting the course of the climate future. Our environment in PEI is an incredible opportunities to support an innovator who will soon become a leader in the global bio economy.”
Protein Evolution carries out an affordable, scalable and effective solution to radically change the plastic waste industry. As the bio economy continue to grow, and scaling bio manufacturing continues to become more crucial to support that growth.
Natural bacteria way and Protein Evolution’s new way
Nature solution that uses has bacteria to break down plastic for emission free recycling is extremely slow, and not practically in a mass production chain. So supercharging organism is necessary.

Protein Evolution’s new technology reduces a million year evolutionary time process into a single day. As the bio economy continues to grow, and scaling bio manufacturing continues to become more circular to support that growth, it’s clear that the work Protein Evolution is doing well help lay the foundation for the future of synthetic biology.
Protein Evolution’s partner ESPCI and 4 Catalyzer
The startup team works in tandem with preeminent researchers who are pushing the boundaries of protein engineering and materials innovation. The team expects to launch its first commercial partnership by the end of 2022, addressing the need of global consumer brands seeking to recycle and transform textiles and mixed plastic waster.
Protein Evolution has partnered with ESPCI Paris and 4 Catalyzer, a life science accelerator dedicated to making a better renewable world through bold innovation in medicine, engineering, machine learning, life science and biotech.
Cofounder and chairman of Protein Evolution, Jonathan Rothberg said of the technology:
“At 4 Catalyzer, we’ve created a number of world first in the health tech industry, all of which aim to help heal the people we love with leverage 4 Catalyzer’ strength in AI and synthetic biology to help heal the planet.”
Protein Evolution’s enzymatic process for unlimited reusable resource
October 31 2022, Protein Evolution INC(PEI) launched out of stealth, unveiling groundbreaking technologies that transforms textile and mixed plastic waste into an infinitely reusable resource.
Global consumer brands will be happy to see a new solution to recycle and transform textiles and old plastic waste. The company’s first product is an enzymatic process that assists textile and plastic waste to become an unlimited reusable resource.
Protein Evolution’s technology iteratively tests, evaluates and maps tens of millions of unique enzymes to identify the most effective way to recycle waste materials into reusable chemicals.
This approach of supercharging organism with enzyme will carry significant impact in the emerging bio economy as companies, communities and governments are required to meet global sustainability goals inn the years ahead.
It helps the chemical industry transition to a lower carbon, circular economy. Leveraging recent breakthrough in natural science and artificial intelligence, the startup designs enzymes to break down end of life textile and plastic waste into the building blocks.
